Prius hid vs halogen
(There's another forum where IIHS did a rating of headlight comparison of the F30 to the Prius, Prius won). Car now illuminates like my Prius with LED factory bulbs. $150 well spent.īulbs fit the H7 holder perfectly and have the same measurements as the OEM H7 halogen bulb, no dashboard error even with coding, no false start-ups, no crap from the system at all. Parts came in electric parts bagging to prevent it from being dead on arrival and cushioning. Bought it from RetrofitSource since they are an authorized dealer, received it in 2 days, went with 4500k. So I decided to give Morimoto HIDs a try since they have all three separate components, ballast, igniter, and canbus canceler and they offer a 5 year warranty and will replace the individual failing part. I also found another complaint with people putting in HID kits, people recommended H7R bulbs but this does not matter because exactly where the H7R bulbs are shielded, the BMW F30 halogen headlight has the same exact protrusion that prevents glare even if you install H7 hid xenons. The issue with most HID kits on the market is that, all three of these components are connected each individual part can go bad, but you're not sure which one, therefore you have the chance of either 3 parts going bad.
It must have a Canbus Error cancer (a block connected to the direct power source then to the ballast) and also a igniter (a block connect to the ballast that ignites the xenon filled bulbs) and it must have a water sealed ballast. I did more research on the HID kits and found what it must have to be successful on this german car. (error showed up on dashboard even with coding, it really detected that it was not firing up)(tried the relay as well) (bulb also wiggled around a little bit, had to adjust the bulb holder, only later to undo the adjustment) Then they relabeled the X6 ballast with a Philips sticker and tried to sell it on ebay. Then I bought the HID kit from for $200, only to have the ballast start going out after 3 months and a company that does not honor warranty and has shady business practices and would not offer me a refund but instead sent a generic ballast with a different wattage. (error showed up on dashboard even with coding, it really detected that it was not firing up)
(To supplement I bought HID bulbs from amazon that would fit). Bulbs didn't fit the H7 holder, misfiring upon start-ups. Let's try the ASIC german chip from RaceSport, again from amazon, what could go wrong? I can easily return it. So I thought maybe that Hylux chip product in China was crap. (I also enabled DRL Leds and put in LED bulbs, M start-up, Sport+, Sport Config, Fog light cornering, Window Roll-Up with lock button, DVD unlock, disclaimer removal, rear fog light enabling) Coded out the Warm and Cold Bulb checks to ensure my kit would work. So I bought a E-Sys cable from downloaded Vmware, installed Windows 7 on my mac, followed the instructions from the forums about coding. Tired and fed up, I read about Pulse with Modulation on the BMW F30, okay whatever, didn't help. This HID kit used the Hylux chip which is supposed to be the latest and greatest german created chip. Then I bought the RaceSport H7-6k G4-Canbus from (the seller) and thought, great it's from amazon, what would go wrong, they only carry high quality products. So I started to buy HID kits from amazon.įirst I bought the Opt7 Canbus Premium HID kit only to find that the light bulb wiggles around the H7 holder and it threw a warning on auto lamp mode.
I realized this after running over a 3ft table leg on the highway at night (no damage, could've been significantly worse). So we all know if you have the F30 with halogen bulbs you can only see 20ft away from your car. I did a crap ton of buying, returning, installing, fiddling, coding, and uninstalling until I got it right.
